Kendo (the "way of the sword") is a martial art
based on the classical art of the sword. It is one of Japan's oldest martial
arts.
Originally called Ken-jutsu, this art was developed
from the earliest times by the warriors of Japan and in the 13th century from
the Samurai. When the Samurai were forbidden to carry swords in the late
1800's, Ken-jutsu was transferred into a marital sport called Kendo for the
physical and mental training of the young.
The aim of Kendo training is to mold the mind, the
body, to cultivate a steady and firm attitude to work with perseverance in
order to progress in Kendo through true and rigorous training, to hold courtesy
and honor in high esteem, to deal with others with sincerity and finally,
always to pursue the perfecting of oneself. In kendo we try to
achieve Ki Ken Tai Chi (mind, sword, and body as one).
This is what we strive for in the Kendo classes at the East
West Connection . Kendo classes are held on Saturdays from 12:00
- 2:00 pm. Let East West Connection show you the "way of the
sword". East West Connection is a member of the
US Kendo Federation and the
Midwest Kendo Federation.
